Kathara Deftera Kite Flying

Join us as we celebrate Kathara Deftera (Clean Monday), the beginning of Great Lent, with tradition, community, and sky-high kites.

Clean Monday, or Kathara Deftera, as it is known in Greece, signifies the beginning of a 40-day fasting period in preparation for Easter. The name Clean Monday is symbolic of the cleansing that takes place on this day, both in terms of physical detoxification and spiritual rejuvenation among Orthodox Christians. One of its most beloved traditions is kite flying, representing the lifting of the soul toward heaven and the start of a new season.

We invite you to come together with us for an afternoon of community, reflection, and fun as we honour this tradition.
