Summer Abroad in Greece

Beginning as a student-driven initiative from the alumni of the Greek Students’ Association a few years ago, and with the support of the Hellenic Heritage Foundation, CERES, the University of Toronto, and the broader community, as an association we are proud to see the Modern Greek program here at U of T flourish.

With the addition of a Summer Abroad course in Greece, we can see how well this program has come to be.

Fall Volleyball

Throughout the 2015 fall semester, the GSA competed in U of T’s weekly open division intramural volleyball league. After a slow start to the season with 1 win and 2 losses, the GSA was able to rally back into the competition with 2 resounding wins over both Pharmacy and Pandemics. With the strong finish the GSA qualified for the playoff completion in the 8th seed. In their first playoff match the GSA was scheduled to face the UTCCF Archangels who had yet to lose a set throughout the entire season. Unfortunately while the GSA played hard the team suffered a loss in a heartbreaking fashion by being one point away from winning both sets, and were unable to finish off their opponents, who would later on, won the championship. The team will take this learning experience into their next season, this winter semester and hope for even better results. We’d like to thank all those who came out to support and play for the GSA and we look forward to having another strong season this upcoming semester!

Skate for Toys 2015

On Monday, December 21st, the GSA participated in the annual Skate For Toys, hosted by the Hellenic Student Association of Ryerson University. The event consisted of bringing a toy to Lake Devo Ice Rink Monday evening, and then enjoying a night on the ice rink with friends from all SEF Toronto associations. Despite the wet weather, the outcome was magnificent. Students joined together for a good cause and enjoyed a night filled with Greek music and great friends. Many toys were collected and donated to The Toronto Fire Fighters Association. This Christmas, SEF Toronto gave back to the community by helping to ensure that many children in need had a present to open on Christmas morning.
