Convo Club & Poetry Readings

Conversation Club

Conversation Club is a place to practise or to create oral skills in Greek through informal daily conversation. No prior knowledge of Greek is needed, nor any level of fluency denied.

Dates: Mondays 12-1:30pm and Thursdays 1-2pm
Location: GSA Office – Lillian Massey Building, Rm. B09 (Basement)

Poetry Readings @ Sid Smith

Our Cultural Director, Nico Liakas, will be on the steps of Sid Smith reading the works of various Modern Greek poets every week.
Date: Wednesdays 12-12:30pm
Location: Sid Smith, East facing steps
What is this? This is a way that the GSA is trying to disseminate Modern Greek culture within the greater University community. What better way than the poetry of a country?

Fourno Bake Sale Recap

From November 30th to December 3rd the GSA held campus wide bake sales. We served everything from tiropita, spanakopita, melomakarona, loukoumades, cookies, cupcakes to of course frappe! The loukoumades were a hit and were the fastest pastry to go! Greeks and non-Greeks alike appreciated the frappes and Greek coffee we were serving as they ran to study for mid-terms. We even took our desserts to the street selling loukoumades to cars stopped at red lights. Every member who came out received a free baked good! We raised a ton of money and all proceeds went to the GSA for future events! A thank you to all the members, directors and executives who helped out. A very special thank you to the mothers who baked for the event!

Movie Night I & II Recaps

On November 3rd and December 2nd the GSA held their first two movie nights of the year. We first featured the classic and well loved ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’. Most of us hadn’t seen it in a while and were reminded of the hilarity of Greek family dynamics. There was a great turn out and we had lots of laughs! On our second movie night we featured the academy award winning movie ‘Z’ by world renowned director, Costa-Gavras. The film used the assassination of activist Gregoris Lambrakis as its base. It was an excellent and thought provoking film. Both movies were free for all members and food, popcorn and drinks were provided! Keep your eyes open for upcoming movie nights!
