Clubs Day and Street Fest 2015

On Wednesday, September 9, 2015 and Tuesday, September 15, 2015 your executives set up booths promoting the Greek Students’ Association at both Clubs Day and Street Fest, recruiting members for the 2014/2015 school year!

Clubs Day, which occurs yearly throughout Frosh Week, welcomed over a 100 new members with gyros from our sponsor, Messini’s Authentic Gyros and our newly designed t-shirts, produced by Champion Print Studio.

The University of Toronto Student Union (UTSU) saw the closure St. George Street between Harbord and College Streets for Street Fest! This allowed new and returning students the opportunity to register for any of the incredible clubs here at U of T. We would like to thank our sponsor, Markham Station, who provided delicious souvlakia,  as well as all of those who helped make the day a great success!

We look forward to another amazing year! Make sure to join us this Thursday, September 17th for our annual General Meeting! We are still taking Director nominations until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow evening.

Each year we take 5 Directors; the role of each director is very important as they assist the executive council. If you are interested in becoming an executive in the future, we highly recommend taking on a bigger role a member of the GSA this year. Each director is responsible for certain tasks.

Here is the list of director positions as well as a brief recap of their responsibilities. Note that there is more to these positions.

Director of Social Affairs

  • Responsible for assisting the Vice-President Internal and Vice-President Student Life in planning and promoting events.

Director of Athletics and Recreation

  • Responsible for maintaining all intramural sports teams within the association and responsible for involving the association’s athletes in University of Toronto sporting events

Director of Cultural Affairs

  • Responsible for promoting Hellenic culture to our members through events and is responsible for promoting Hellenic culture to the University of Toronto on behalf of the association.

Director of Communications

First Year Representative

  • Responsible for involving the first years members of the association, promoting the association to first year students, and assisting the executives where needed.

Each year we have a high demand for Director positions. If you do not win, executive’s take on associates as well, who shadow their positions and help the GSA in a similar way that directors do. We are always happy to have more actively involved members.

Please send us your name and the position you wish to run for by Wednesday, September 16 at midnight. Please send all nominations to gsa.stgeorge@utoronto.ca. At our general meeting, you will be asked to stand up and say a few words as to why you think you are best for this position. Preparation ahead of time is not necessary, but recommended. Members will vote the director they feel is most suited for the position.

Good luck to all the candidates!

Niagara Falls Trip 2015

From Friday May 1 to Sunday May 3, the GSA of UofT as well as the HSA of UOIT embarked on their first-ever organized trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario. The trip was a much smaller group February’s Montreal adventure, but an overall fantastic weekend nonetheless. Members were provided with transportation to and from the Falls as well as a comfortable stay at Michael’s Inn, a mere 5-minute walk from the tourist attractions of Clifton Hill. Also included was entrance and line bypass to both Dragonfly and Mardi Gras nightclubs where members danced and drank away the sorrows of their academic year. We would like to thank everyone who came to support us once more and especially thank those executives involved in the creation of the event. We hope to see this trip become an annual item that all GSA members look forward to.
