GSA Constitution Amended

On Thursday September 2o, 2012 the GSA held it’s annual General Meeting and Pub Night in the Music Room at Hart House and at the Duke of York. The event was extremely successful, with over 50 GSA members in attendance. The first part of the General meeting involved amending the Constitution, an act that has not occured since 2005. The GSA General Assembly along with the Executive Committee successfully ratified over 50 amendments that were brought forth by members and exectuvies to help the group grow towards the future. We thank everyone for taking part in this amendment process and hope that the group will continue to flourish for the years to come.

Constitutional Amendment:

The GSA Constitution has been the same over the past 6 years. As the group grows, we have made several recommendations and have heard several critical responses from our members and peers to help make this group better. By formally putting forth a number of amendments and swearing them in with a majority vote, we will be able to amend our constitution for the first time. Amendments may include new positions, new policies, new voting rules, etc.

As a 2012-2013 Paid and Registered member, you have the right to submit a constitutional amendment(s) to the GSA in the form of an email by Tuesday September 18, 2012 at 11:59PM. On Wednesday September 19, 2012 the GSA will email all members a Word Document with all proposed amendments for a 24-hour review purpose. The amendments will be presented Thursday at the meeting via slideshow presentation and you will be allowed one vote per amendment to have it sworn in or not.

The GSA Office (located at 21 Sussex Ave, 4th Floor, Room 423) will be open Friday September 14 from 1-4PM and Monday September 17 from 2-4PM to sign up and pay for your 2012-13 membership to be eligible to put forth an amendment. Please email your amendment(s) to gsa.stgeorge@utoronto.ca with subject line: “Constitutional Amendment”

Director Elections:

We will be electing our 2012-13 Director positions at the General Meeting this year. There are 5 Director Positions up for grabs as well as any new ones that may be created through our constitutional amendment:

  •   Director of Cultural Affairs
  •   Director of Social Affairs

Please email all speeches to gsa.stgeorge@utoronto.ca by Wednesday September 19, 2012.

U.T.S.U. Street Festival

On Tuesday September 11th, the University of Toronto Students’ Union closed down all of St. George Street from College to Harbord to host a first ever students’ street festival. What better opportunity for the GSA to roast a traditional lamb! Arriving at 7:15AM, we set up our charcoal spit and began roasting the 41 pound baby lamb. As the day progressed, and the lamb began to cook, thousands of students poured through the street welcomed by multiple food vendors and a sample of all the clubs U of T has to offer. The biggest spectacle however, was the GSA and our lamb roast. Throughout the day, we signed up 70 new members and welcomed any questions directed to our group, the lamb, and what we do on campus. Special thanks to all of the executives who devoted their entire day to this set-up, the UTSU for allowing us to roast our lamb, Uncle Jimmy Panagiotoulias who helped prepare, cook, and cut up the lamb, to all of our members that came out, and to Kostas Meat Market for generously subsidizing the lamb for us!

Clubs Fair Day 2012

On Wednesday September 5th, the GSA once again set up one of the most welcoming tables at the U.T.S.U. Orientation Clubs Fair Day. Our theme this year was Free Messini Gyro when you sign up to the GSA. We also introduced our brand new, redesigned 2012/2013 GSA T-Shirts, which you also got for Free when signing up with the GSA. With the help of our delicious Free Messini Gyro, stylish new T-Shirts, and our new iPad sign-up process, the GSA signed up a record-breaking 109 members during Clubs Fair Day!!  We would like to thank everyone that signed up during clubs fair day, the executives and members that volunteered throughout the day, and Messini Authentic Gyros for graciously donating  the Gyro for our event! The success of clubs fair day is only the beginning to the most successful GSA year ahead of us!

U.T.S.U. Street Festival!

For the first time ever, the University of Toronto Students Union is closing St. George Street from College to Harbord for a massive student street festival! Come join the GSA for the festivities on Tuesday September 11 between 10AM and 3PM! There will be vendors, prizes, games, and give aways as well as every student club on campus. Most importantly, the GSA will be there and we will be doing what we do best, roasting a lamb on a spit! Come by the GSA table to become a GSA member for $5 and receive your FREE 2012/2013 t-shirt, FREE Frappe/desserts, and of course, FREE Lamb! Don’t forget to miss this huge event. See you all there!

The New GSA Logo!

Hi everyone! The GSA is proud to announce it’s new logo that represents our student organization. The Greek Students’ Association at the University of Toronto has grown exponentially over the past few years and has established a new brand of active, successful, and passionate Hellenic Students at the St. George Campus.  We are proud to present our new brand that represents a cleaner, professional, and more unique identity for our organization. The new logo, designed by James Nahhas (youoft.ca), kept a similar rendition of the previous logo but added a more professional appearance along with our title written out to better identify who we are.

We hope you like the new logo as it will be the face of our group moving forward. Please send any comments or questions to gsa.stgeorge@utoronto.ca or message us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/greekstudentsassociation

We are very excited to work with Signature Productions again and are pleased to share the Giorgios Mazonakis experiance with all of our members.
